Frequently Asked Questions

+ How do I know if my child or I would benefit from therapy?

People go to therapy for lots of reasons! To learn more about themselves, improve relationships, manage stress, understand emotions, process life events, reduce symptoms, have space for someone to listen without judgement - the list goes on. Any of these reasons, or simply your own desire for trying therapy, are an indication that you will benefit.

For parents, your child may benefit from therapy if they ask for it, or if you are noticing emotions or behaviors that seem out of character or are beginning to interfere with school, work, relationships, or other areas of daily life.

Request a free 15 minute consultation to learn more about how you or your child may benefit from therapy.

+ I submitted a consultation request. What happens now?

Once you submit your request for a consultation, you can expect to hear from us within two business days to schedule your phone consultation. During your consultation call, our primary focus is making sure that we're the right fit for what you're looking for. We'll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you're hoping to get out of therapy, and what we have to offer. If we both feel that our services are the right fit for you or your family, then we'll schedule an initial appointment. If one or both of us feel that we are not the right fit, we'll provide you with referrals to other therapists or therapy groups that may better meet your needs.

+ How much do you charge?

Our fee depends on the type of service and length of session. We'll discuss the specifics of our fee structure during the phone consultation.

+ What does sliding scale mean?

Sliding scale is a "choose what you pay" option for reduced fee sessions. We do not require you to provide any proof of financial need when requesting sliding scale payment. If there are no available sliding scale spots at the time of your request, you can be placed on our waitlist.

+ Do you take insurance?

The short answer: We do not bill insurance. However, you may be eligible for reimbursement through your insurance provider. We are happy to provide you with an invoice (also known as a "superbill"), as an out-of-network provider.

The longer answer is that we know that insurance can help therapy be more affordable, which made not accepting insurance a tough decision for us. In the end, we felt that it was more aligned with our values to have you be in charge of your therapy, not your insurance provider, which will require a diagnosis and has the power to dictate the number of sessions and the types of therapeutic interventions that you are eligible for.

If at any point during our work together, you need to transition to working with a therapist who takes your insurance, we will be happy to provide you with a referral and transfer your records.

+ How many sessions will my child or I need?

It depends. In our first few sessions, we'll talk about goals or what you're hoping to get out of therapy. At that time, we can make an estimate together based on your individual needs and situation. Some people use therapy to reach specific, measured goals; others use it ongoing as part of their self-care routine. That part is up to you!

+ What forms of payment do you accept?

We require a credit or debit card to be kept on file, which will be stored using a secure billing system. Following each appointment, your card will be charged automatically.

+ Where is your office located?

We are located at 1508 F St. near downtown Sacramento, California. Our office is located in a residential area with free, unmetered parking available.

+ What is telehealth?

Telehealth means therapy sessions via video. We use a HIPAA-compliant video platform program called Simple Practice. If you opt for telehealth, we will walk you through how to use it prior to your initial session.

We are currently offering both in-person and telehealth options.

+ Is art therapy right for me?

Art therapy sessions can be helpful for people looking for an alternative to communicating verbally, for an opportunity to tap into different parts of their brains, or for a chance to find creative solutions to problems they feel stuck with. Schedule a free consultation with Miriam to learn more!
